The quickest way to reach us is email. Every message is read by a person, and corrections to the history, meanings or designs are always welcome.

What you can write to us about
- Corrections. A historical claim, a motif meaning, a date or a source that you think is wrong.
- A problem with a design. A design filed under the wrong motif or style, a visible flaw we missed in review, or an image that does not load.
- Design requests. A motif, placement or style combination you would like to see in the gallery. We cannot promise to add every idea, but requests do shape what we make next.
- Removal requests. If you believe a design or a passage on the site infringes your rights or resembles your own work too closely, tell us which page and why, and we will review it promptly.
- Translations. A mistake or an awkward sentence in any of the eight language versions of the site.
- Press and permissions. Questions from journalists, or about using a design, a prompt or text from this site elsewhere. The terms and conditions answer the most common questions.
- Privacy requests. Questions about your data, or a request to delete an email you sent us. The privacy policy explains what we collect.
How to get a faster answer
A few details help a lot:
- The link to the page you are writing about, copied from your browser’s address bar.
- For a design, a short description (for example “the etching raven on a skull, forearm, second row”) or a screenshot.
- For a correction, the source you are relying on, such as a book, a museum record or an article. We check every correction before changing a page.

What we cannot help with
- Tattoo bookings or prices. We are not a studio and cannot book you with an artist. For typical prices and what affects them, see cost, pain and aftercare.
- Custom designs. We do not take commissions. A local tattoo artist is the right person for that, and our guide on how to design a gothic tattoo explains how to brief one. You can also copy any design’s prompt and make your own variations.
- Medical advice. If a tattoo looks infected, swollen or is not healing, see a doctor or pharmacist rather than writing to us.
Your email and your privacy
We use your email address only to reply to you. It is never added to a mailing list, sold or shared with anyone else, and messages are kept only as long as we need them to deal with your request.
